Prepare for Your Annual Review Calmly

Prepare for Your Annual Review Calmly
本文重點
  • Start preparing a week or two early, not the night before.
  • Gather highlights from the year in one place.
  • Connect results to goals and to the people you helped.
  • Note lessons and the support you need next.
  • Write two or three questions to ask your manager.

To prepare for your annual review calmly, gather the year’s highlights, connect results to goals, note lessons, set next-year aims and write the questions you want to ask. A little preparation turns a nervous meeting into a useful conversation about your growth.

Start a week or two early

Block two short sessions in your planner: one to gather, one to reflect. Preparing early means you can recall examples calmly rather than scrambling the night before.

Gather the year’s highlights

Look back through your planner, calendar and notes. List projects finished, problems solved, people supported and skills gained. If you kept a wins page, this step takes minutes; see Keep a Record of Your Work Wins. If not, start one now for next year.

Connect results to goals

Next to each highlight, note which goal it served and what changed because of it. Did a process get faster? Did a client stay? Did a teammate grow? Concrete outcomes help your manager see the value of your work.

Note lessons and needs

Write two or three things you learned and one or two kinds of support that would help next year: training, a mentor, clearer priorities, more time for a key project. Reflection shows maturity, and specific requests are easier to agree to. A A Mid-Year Check-In for Your Goals page can feed directly into this step.

Set aims and questions

Draft two or three goals for the year ahead and a few questions: “What would make the biggest difference next year?” “How can I grow toward my next role?” Bringing questions turns the review into a two-way conversation.

After the meeting

Write a short summary the same day: feedback received, goals agreed and next steps. Add check-in dates to your planner. For thinking about your direction more broadly, see Which EGOSUNNY Fits Your Profession?.
